Job: Part-time, grant-funded, Union, temporary until August 31, 2026

Supervisor: Director of Youth & Family Programs

Hours: 20 to 28 hours per week. Friday and Saturday availability required. (schedule varies based on programming needs, occasional Sundays and evening work required).

Union Min Rate: $20.42 per hour

General Purpose: Focusing on studio classes and outreach, the incumbent will develop, coordinate, and facilitate programming on site and in the community that engages a multi-generational youth and family audience in creative experiences that foster Museum literacy and connect with the Museum's collection and special exhibitions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of and teach ticketed programs for the Milwaukee Art Museum including Youth Studio Classes, school tour workshops, and other programs at the Museum, in the community, and online.
  • Coordinate registration for ticketed programs, inclusive of follow-up correspondence for families and communicating workshop details with teachers, docents, and other staff as needed.
  • Work to increase awareness of the Sue and Mike Dunham Scholarship Fund. Maintain detailed scholarship and registration records.
  • Function as supervisor on duty on Saturdays on non-summer studio class weeks and as assigned.
  • Lead the development and organization of Kohl’s Studio in the Community programming, inclusive of ordering and maintaining supplies, cleaning and maintaining the Kohl’s Studio outreach van, and scheduling and communicating with community organizations, schools, and events to confirm schedule and day-of logistics.
  • Lead the Kohl’s Studio outreach van at offsite events, which primarily take place outdoors in the summer and fall and indoors in the winter and spring. Drive the Kohl’s Studio van to offsite events, oversee the set-up and tear down of the temporary Studio space, communicate day-of logistics with staff, and function as supervisor on duty.
  • Provide written and photographic records of programs and activities.
  • Collect and maintain data for Kohl’s Studio programming reports, including but not limited to surveys, observational notes and evaluations, photographic records, and participation numbers.

Supporting Responsibilities

  • Assist with the organizing, preparing, and installing artwork and other details for yearly Sue and Mike Dunham Scholarship exhibition and reception. Prepare yearly overview book of scholarship participation.
  • As assigned, design and implement Kohl’s Art Studio art activities and drop-in activities for intergenerational groups, including but not limited to rotating projects and early childhood corner.
  • As assigned, communicate lesson plans, demonstrate use of materials, and model teaching to other staff working in the Kohl’s Art Studio.
  • Assist with ordering, maintaining, and organizing inventory of art supplies for Kohl’s Art Studio on site and in the community, classes, and workshops.
  • Assist with tracking programming budgets throughout year.
  • As assigned, develop supplemental studio materials such as signage and displays. Assist with the set-up of teaching environments, including preparing materials and equipment such as easels, tables, and tents.
  • As assigned, assist with marketing tasks, inclusive of developing copy for the monthly family e-news and communicating with marketing on various program-related initiatives such as videos, social media posts, and calendar updates.
  • Provide support for Family Sundays. As assigned, prepare materials, create decorations, hang artwork, maintain supply closet organization, and teach art activities.
  • Participate in Learning & Engagement and Youth & Family meetings
  • Assist with Youth & Family staff trainings.
  • As assigned, develop, implement, evaluate, and/or assist with other special projects, programs, and partnerships at the Museum, in the community, or online.
  • As needed, greet school groups and public tours.
  • As needed, assist with staff breaks at the ArtPack station.
Requirements:

Education/Experience Requirements:

Strong background in studio art and/or art education. Need to be highly creative, personable, and organized with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of art history and developing ongoing understanding of the Museum's collection and special exhibitions required. Four-year degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Art History, or related field, with demonstrated strong art making experience required. Demonstrated customer service skills also required.

License or Certification Requirements: Driver's license required.
